Painting
Painting runs through Giorgio Zennaro’s entire career, parallel to sculpture and never subordinate to it: line and colour work as an extension of his sculptural thinking, the same dynamic tension of the sculptures spread across the surface, between geometric order and transparency. The works gathered on this page span the 1960s and 1970s.
Zennaro’s non-figurative work was recognised in exhibitions devoted to painting and printmaking: in 1972 the invitation to the 36th Biennale Internazionale d’Arte di Venezia for contemporary graphic art, in 1973 the X Quadriennale Nazionale d’Arte di Roma in the section on the position of non-figurative art, in 1993 the Triennale Internazionale d’Arte of Osaka for painting and, the following year, the one for printmaking. Many of the works reproduced here have no documented title: they are listed as “Untitled”, with the year where it is known.
